Rosemary

Rosmarinus officinalis

Rosemary is a woody Mediterranean perennial with one of the richest antioxidant profiles in the herb world, driven by carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid — both of which actively scavenge free radicals that prolong post-bite and post-exercise inflammation. Beyond its therapeutic role, rosemary acts as a natural preservative in infused oils: its antioxidant compounds inhibit oxidation of the carrier oil, extending shelf life without synthetic additives. Emerging research also suggests it modulates pain signaling through the prostaglandin pathway.

Did You Know

Rosemary's botanical name derives from the Latin 'ros maris' — dew of the sea — a reference to its Mediterranean coastal origins where it grows wild along sea cliffs.

Our Sourcing

Rosemary is one of the most reliable herbs in InVine's Tallahassee garden — it thrives in Florida's heat once established and gives generously year-round. We harvest leaves and small sprigs at their most fragrant, then dry them carefully before beginning an eight-week slow infusion in cold-extracted organic oils. Because rosemary's own antioxidants protect the infusing oil from degrading during the process, it does double work from the very start: the herb heals, and it preserves.

Why We Use It

Rosemary earned its place in all three balms because it does something no other herb in the formulas does quite as well — it protects everything around it. Its antioxidant compounds stabilize the infused oil naturally, so I never need a synthetic preservative. That matters deeply to me. Beyond that protective role, rosemary brings real therapeutic weight: circulatory stimulation in the Muscle Revive Balm, antioxidant support in the Bug Bite Balm, and an aromatic depth in Breathe Free that grounds the brighter mints and makes the formula feel complete.
